Battenberg

Fancy a bit of Battenberg? Lovely cake. Lovely van. Battenberg (the van) is a 1962 right hand drive splitscreen from the hot and sunny climes of South Africa. He has a very small back window and bullet indicators (that's just for you VW aficionados out there). When we got him we was given a full respray, new interior, new engine and is looking good enough to eat. He was named in a competition we ran with Innocent Smoothies at their village fete in Regents Park in 2007. The name just seemed to fit with our image of the vans as a little quirky and a little tasty. So go on - choose Battenberg the king of cakes, I mean vans.

This year Battenberg is celebrating his 50th Birthday! He was also proud to be chosen to accompany Lynda Bellingham on a television culinary adventure! The resulting series "My Tasty Travels with Lynda Bellingham" was screened on ITV1, in September 2012.

(Battenberg's name was New Blue Splitty before be was christened so these last blogs refer to him as NBS).

Battenberg offers a double bed plus a small bed, over the engine bay, for a child up to 4 years old.*  He also comes with the usual facilities we offer (see below) except he has a cool box (12v/240v) instead of a fridge. The CD player has no aux for an ipod. You can choose any extras you may fancy from our extras page, except the bike rack (Battenberg cannot carry one of these).

Sleeps 2 plus 1 little one (up to 4 years old). 4 seat belts: 3 lap and diagonal belts in the front and 1 lap belt in the back.

*It is worth mentioning that taller customers might prefer the more spacious sleeping arrangements found in the 1970s campers.
